Ingredients
- 1 (12-ounce) can beer
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 sprig rosemary, optional
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 2 pounds medium raw shrimp, deveined, rinsed, remove shell except for tail
Instructions
6 steps
- 1
Gather the ingredients.
- 2
Add the beer, lemon juice, salt, and rosemary (if using) to a large saucepan or stewpot.
- 3
Add your steamer basket to the pot, making sure that it sits well above the beer. Add the celery to the basket and cover.
- 4
Bring the beer to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Once a simmer is reached add the cleaned shrimp to the steamer basket.
- 5
Cover and cook until all of the shrimp turn pink, about 6 minutes. The top ones tend to change color first, so make sure to move them around and check that all have turned pink. Discard celery.
- 6
Serve warm or cold as they are or with cocktail sauce or melted butter. As these are served with the shell on, remember to provide a bowl for the tail shells.
